How do I become a real
estate broker?
In Michigan, to become a licensed
real estate broker, the applicant first
needs to take a total of ninety hours
of prelicensure education. This
course can be taken as a
homestudy, online or as in class
instruction. After successfully
completing the real estate training
education, the applicant must then
take the Michigan state brokers
licensing exam, administered by PSI
Exams, with a passing score of
seventy percent or better. It is
required that you have been
previously licensed as a real estate
salesperson in the State of Michigan
and having three years of
experience in the business of real
estate.
What does the course
cover?
Each of our courses cover the real
estate fundamentals, which are on
the licensing exam, that will ensure
you have the ability to successfully
pass the Michigan real estate
brokers exam. This course will allow
the student to gain knowledge and
an understanding of such important
topics as the principles and
practices real estate, legal aspects of
real estate, real estate finance, and
real estate appraisal. Course topics
include real estate economics and
general accounting, business law,
property management, escrows, and
real estate office administration. The
required hours of civil rights law and
equal opportunity in housing are
included in each of the thirty hour
segments.
I have completed the
course, what is next?
After completing the ninety hour
Michigan real estate broker course,
your next step is to schedule your
brokers licensing exam with PSI
Exams. Once you take and pass this
exam, PSI Exams will report your
passing results to the state. Upon
successfully passing the licensing
exam, you will then apply for
licensure through the State of
Michigan. Upon review and approval
of your application, the state will
then issue and mail your Michigan
real estate brokers license to the
employing broker that you are
working with, and have indicated as
such on your application, or send it
directly to you if you are an
individual broker.
